the secret to enjoying the best italian wines

the secret to enjoying the best italian wines

The entire TDC team has wanderlust to the extreme currently, so featuring Scarpetta, one of our favorite wines, was a welcome excuse to daydream about Italy. When we say "favorite wine," we also mean favorite people. Our founder, Tiffany, has known the masterminds behind Scarpetta for years through events and mutual friends. Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson met while both were part of the team at Thomas Keller's renowned (and impossible to get into) Yountville restaurant, The French Laundry.

Bobby and Lachlan were inspired to create Scarpetta while traveling in the northeastern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. We love their strategy: "The secret to enjoying the best Italian wines is not just to drink them, but to experience the people, places, and cultures that create them."

“The secret to enjoying the best Italian wines is not just to drink them, but to experience the people, places and cultures that create them.”

In 2007, Scarpetta was born with the idea to make 50 cases of a white Friulian wine to serve at Frasca, the restaurant Bobby, his amazing wife Danette, and Lachlan started together in Boulder, CO. Scarpetta has since grown to include 12 different wines. We love that many of the grapes they use are new to us non-sommelier folks. Their Frico Friulano is 100% Friulano grapes. If you tell us you've heard of that grape a million times, we'll call your bluff.

Possibly the best thing about Scarpetta’s amazing wines is that they are also affordable. You’ll find Scarpetta in stores in all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. So we encourage you to go find yourself a bottle and then channel the lifestyle that Bobby and Lachlan paid homage to when creating Scarpetta: “True to Italian traditions, part of everyday meals include drinking good wine, great conversation, and little moments of celebration.”

p.s. Scarpetta refers to a small piece of bread used to soak up the last bit of delicious sauce on your plate that you can't possibly leave behind. Alright, we’ll just say it: We love you, Scarpetta.
